Texas Tech fought hard Saturday to close a 15-point lead down to four just after halftime, but let it slip away, losing to Arizona State 77-62.
Jonathan Gilling and Jahii Carson each scored 18 for Arizona State (10-2). All of Gilling’s points came from the perimeter, while 16 of Carson’s came in the second half.
“Arizona State had 14 threes, it would be hard for a lot of teams to beat them tonight,” Texas Tech head coach Chris Walker said.
A Trency Jackson field goal made it 46-42 with 16:57 left in the game, but the Sun Devils would build their lead back to as many as 17 late in the game.
“At times like that we fight back to get so close then we let them come back and hit two 3s,” Jaye Crockett said.
Jaye Crockett led the Red Raiders with 11 point and nine rebounds. Jordan Tolbert and Josh Gray each added 10 points for Texas Tech.
“It’s about the journey for us right now,” Walker said. “Moreso than the destination.”
Texas Tech (5-4) hosts North Carolina A&T (5-7) on Dec. 28.
