Barnes makes 17 for Texas Tech

When Loganville (Ga.) Grayson defensive end Zach Barnes parted ways with Tennessee after Derek Dooley was fired as the Volunteers coach, he didn't panic.

Zach Barnes officially visited Texas Tech over the weekend and committed on Tuesday morning.

"I knew it would work out," Barnes told 247Sports. "I knew God had something planned for me. It took awhile for the word to get out. When people found out that I de-committed from Tennessee they started to get interested."

On Tuesday, the three-star outside defender found a new home.

"I committed to Texas Tech at about 11 a.m.," Barnes said.

According to the 6-foot-3, 225-pound Barnes, he picked Texas Tech over BYU.

"It was a pretty difficult decision," Barnes said. "They're both great schools, great programs and they have great academics. It came down to the feel I got at Texas Tech. When I went over there, I loved the area, and how nice the facilities are. I loved the people out there. I loved that they have a history of winning. I just got hooked out there."

Barnes officially visited Texas Tech this past weekend.

"I just felt so at home over there," he said. "I felt like I had a lot in common with those people. They're great guys on the team, and I feel like I could do good over there."

Barnes said he will not take any more visits.

"I'm pretty set," he said.
