The Texas Tech Red Raiders (1-0) host the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks (1-1) at the United Spirit Arena Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
Texas Tech interim head coach Chris Walker is looking for his second consecutive win to start his head coaching career.
The Red Raiders are coming off an 89-79 win in their season opener over Prairie View A&M, head coach Chris Walker’s first of his career. Meanwhile, the Mavericks are coming off an 86-96 loss to Saint Mary.
6-foot-8, 235-pound junior, center John Karhoff leads the Mavericks with 15 points and five rebounds per game. Sophomore guard C.J. Carter is second with 12 points and four assists per game, while senior forward Alex Welhouse has added 10.5 points and five rebounds per game.
Last Friday night, the Mavericks won just their second game against a Division 1 opponent in school history – 77-64 against Northern Illinois before losing to Saint Mary on Sunday.
The Mavericks are in their second year as a reclassifying Division I school and are members of the Summit League.
UNO is led by eighth year head coach Derrin Hansen, who has compiled a 122-87 record in his current position.
Wednesday’s game against the Red Raiders marks the first of 10 consecutive road games for the Mavericks. The Mavericks return to Ralston Arena in Omaha on Dec. 18.
Sophomore Jordan Tolbert led the Red Raiders on Friday night with 16 points in their win over Prairie View A&M, and will look to lead his team to their second straight win Wednesday night.
