Wreckem247's "You Call It" - Nov. 17th Edition ft. Big Rich

  • This feature is where the guys and I predict the outcome of the Big 12 games and other top games around the country. Joining me in this edition are Reese Gardell, Jeff Ezell, Curtis Brown, and former Texas Tech defensive tackle Richard Jones (2006-2009)!

    After Jones' four-year career with the Red Raiders, he played in the CFL for the BC Lions and is now a touring Christian rap artist under the name "Big Rich".
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    The guys and I will pick the winner of the following:

    #18 USC (7-3) @ #17 UCLA (8-2)
    #22 Rutgers (8-1) @ Cincinnati (7-2)
    #13 Stanford (8-2) @ #2 Oregon (10-0)
    Ohio State (10-0) @ Wisconsin (7-3)
    Syracuse (5-5) @ Missouri (5-5)
    UCF (8-2, 6-0) @ Tulsa (8-2, 6-0)

    We pick all Big 12 games with a short explanation as to why each team wins:

    #12 Oklahoma (7-2) @ West Virginia (5-4)
    #1 Kansas State (10-0) @ Baylor (4-5)
    Iowa State (5-5) @ Kansas (1-9)

    We predict the score and the winner of the Tech game and take a guess at how it'll turn out:

    #23 Texas Tech (7-3) @ #24 Oklahoma State (6-3)
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Picks are arranged in this order: Reese G. :: J. Ezell :: C. Brown :: Landon :: Big Rich

    #18 USC (7-3) @ #17 UCLA (8-2) :: USC :: USC :: USC :: USC :: USC
    #22 Rutgers (8-1) @ Cincinnati (7-2) :: Cincy :: Cincy :: Cincy :: Rutgers :: Rutgers
    #13 Stanford (8-2) @ #2 Oregon (10-0) :: Oregon : Oregon :: Oregon :: Oregon :: Oregon

    Syracuse (5-5) @ Missouri (5-5) :: Mizzou :: Mizzou :: Mizzou :: Mizzou :: Syracuse

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    #12 Oklahoma (7-2) @ West Virginia (5-4)

    Reese: Oklahoma
    "Despite the fact that this game is in Morgantown, Oklahoma is rolling. Oklahoma's advantage on the defensive side of the ball gets OU the win."

    Jeff: Oklahoma
    "West Virginia has had trouble with every Big 12 team so far and is currently on a four game losing streak. OU isn’t exactly the team you want to be playing when you are in a downward spiral. OU will fill up the stat sheet in this one."

    Curtis: Oklahoma
    "I would like to think that West Virginia can show us something on defense, but with Landry
    Jones and the Sooner offense coming to down, it might be more of the same for that WVU
    defense."

    Landon: Oklahoma
    "The Sooners let Baylor give them a better game than they should have, and because of that I think they got focused this week in practice. Oklahoma rolls in this one."

    Big Rich: Oklahoma
    "Oklahoma wins because they need it, because if K-State loses they can win the Big 12."
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    #1 Kansas State (10-0) @ Baylor (4-5)

    Reese: Kansas State
    "At this point, I don't think there is anyone stopping Kansas State in conference play."

    Jeff: Kansas State
    "This game will probably be over in the first quarter. Collin Klein makes good defenses look silly. And I don’t believe Baylor qualifies as a team with a good defense."

    Curtis: Kansas State
    "I believe that this could be a potential trap game for Kansas State with the Texas game and a trip to the BCS National Championship game in the horizon. The senior leadership of Colin Klein will be key in this matchup. Look for him to make enough plays to seal a Kansas State victory in Waco."

    Landon: Kansas State
    "Baylor looked much improved last weekend against Oklahoma. That being said, Kansas State is putting together a special year and I don't think Baylor is the team to stop them. With a month to prepare for a bowl game, I don't think anyone stops them. I think Kansas State runs the table and Bill Snyder retires on top. What a turn around."

    Big Rich: Kansas State
    "K-State wins because they're just on a roll right now."
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Iowa State (5-5) @ Kansas (1-9)

    Reese: Iowa State
    "Kansas is better than its record shows, and they will put up a fight at home. However, Iowa State's defense has the ability to shut down the run and get the Cyclones bowl eligible."

    Jeff: Iowa State
    "Kansas has played hard the last couple of games and lost some heartbreakers. I think Kansas will come into this game disheartened and lose a close one. Charlie Weis on the hot seat after year 1? "

    Curtis: Iowa State
    "As I mentioned last week, Kansas is due for a conference victory, but Iowa St. needs this win more than Kansas simply because with a win, the Cyclones become bowl eligible. The Cyclone defense will be the difference in the 4th quarter."

    Landon: Iowa State
    "Kansas is due for a win, you would think. Iowa State likes to bully up on the Jayhawks when they get the chance and I think the Cyclone defense matches up great against what Kansas does on offense. Iowa State wins big."

    Big Rich: Iowa State
    "Iowa state wins because Kansas is just not good this year"
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    #23 Texas Tech (7-3) @ #24 Oklahoma State (6-3)

    Reese: Oklahoma State 42-28
    "I hope that I'm wrong, but I just don't have a good feeling about this game. Hopefully the earlier kickoff time with be advantageous to Tech. This game could be a shootout, and Tech always has a chance in a shootout."

    Jeff: Oklahoma State 38-21
    "Oklahoma State has won the last three matchups of the series including giving a 66-6 beat down to Tech last season. I just don’t see the improvement from Tech to be able to go into Stillwater and pull off a win. I was optimistic before the season of Tech winning this game but honestly I haven’t seen any real drop off from Oklahoma State’s offense for me to believe Tech can pull this one off."

    Curtis: Texas Tech 38-34
    "This could turn into a track meet in Stillwater. Tech’s offensive line has to control the line of
    scrimmage to establish a running game. If that doesn’t happen, it will be a long day. Having
    mentioned that, I think using the motivation of getting embarrassed last season against the
    Cowboys at home will motivate this team and they will win a close shootout."

    Landon: Oklahoma State 38-31
    "Texas Tech is 1-0 when I pick them to lose, so I figure it's okay for me to trade a 'You Call It' loss for a real-life Tech win - let's hope. Oklahoma State is playing like the second best team in the Big 12 right now and Tech hasn't won in Stillwater since I was in junior high. I think the Red Raiders will play a hard emotional game, and just might pull it out."

    Big Rich: Oklahoma State 35-31
    "Oklahoma state beats Tech 35-31 because it's hard for us to beat them in Stillwater and it hasn't been done in a long time."
