Tech v Baylor- Gameday

  • Pete Robertson is really fast for a DE.

    Landon Wright

  • Terrance Williams' catch makes it 42-38 Baylor.

    Landon Wright

  • It's winning time now for Tech. Time to make a play.

    Keys to the game-

Shutting down Seastrunk will be essential

Adequate coverage on Williams, I am unsure how this will go, but I can tell you that without adequate coverage we are going to have difficulty getting the W. What has worked in the past is a Cover 2 Deep. We shall see what Kaufman has planned

Pressure on Florence- Here is where the seniors will have to step up. Also the safety blitz featuring Davis will not be a factor if Williams is having his way with the secondary.

I'd Like to see Robertson in as our pass rush specialist.

Will Smith needs to be put in a spy, we have been biting on play action and we need one defender who keeps an eye on the play, especially concerning Seastrunk and the draw.

Jakeem Grant should get the ball quite a bit. He is our main source of MO I think he can make short work of the Baylor secondary, if he can get past the BU LB's

The BU LB's are nothing to shake a stick at. Watch for our ability to block them, without this component, the run will be difficult.

I do not expect Baylor to play at the level they did with KSU.

I do not know what to expect from our team, though I think they would leave it all out on the field today

I do not know what to expect from our playcalling, but I suspect we will see some gadget plays, and maybe some flashes of the Riverboat Gambler today.

So let's get our GUNS UP.

so lets review the keys to the game

    Shutting down Seastruck- C

    Adequate coverage on Wiliams- F

    Pressure on florence- B

Robertson- Great Tackle but he gets a F for facemask which gave them the first on 3rd down

    Grant- A++

    BU LB's- C+

    Baylor playing level- A

Tech- A if it were not for turnovers, so they get a D

    Playcalling- A

  • IMO, Tech could have put the game away in the second quarter and went into half 28-7 or 35-7 but they seemed to slow down and play more conservative (for a little while). Playing conservative rarely works in the Big 12 these days.

  • That's how we roll. Instead of playing to win, we play not to lose, which is the polar opposite of Leach's philosophy.

Speaking of, he got a huge win last night.

^^^^ I miss Leach and have stopped rooting for my Alma Mater Tech since he was fired fyi guys. Sorry but it's true, class of '79 here!

Tubb's is a defensive coach and Tech has never been defense first and offense second, Tech is strong offense side team and needs another Leach offensive mind to roll again.

I'm just plain frustrated with the whole deal now and being from Waco originally I've gone back to rooting for my hometown Baylor's which runs an offense like Leach's and has a coach that coached under Leach too!

It hurts to see another end of season failure again too.

  • Leach was an awful coach. That's all I'm gonna say. I am cocerned w the program as it stands today, not yesterday. That's all I am going to say.

    reno1976

  • ^^^^^ What??? Leach =s awful coach??? R U serious??? R r u Craig James r his son?

I do agree with your concern of today, but the decision makers seem to need a little prodding it seems? What's going on with that?

  • I do not know exactly what is going on with the playcalling. I am sure there is a reason for some of it, though I do feel that the Baylor game is not an example of conservative playcalling, though I have seen some this year which seemed to cause us to fall behind. Technically, anytime yo have the lead your playcalling should change to a more controlled pace in order to take control of the clock, is that what happened? I felt it was more a problem of passing completion which caused us to stall. But I do agree with you about the conservative playcalling at critical times this year, it has been hard to understand, and it is my main concern at this time.

  • What I meant was that the school needs to get off their hands and hire a real offensive minded coach again to take Tubbs place as HC! Tubbs may be a good man but he needs to go be a good man somewhere else imo. Arkansas?

Your talk of "conservative playcalling" tho is simply a symptom of the disease and the disease is a defensive coach(Tubbs) playing defensively instead of offensively when he gets the lead imo. He, in a pinch, simply reverts back to what he knows best and that's putting game in hands of his beloved defense. Hence, the "conservative" playcalling imo.

As I've said, I've gone back to my team of where I was raised in Waco and can root for an offensive head coach that tutored(at least got a little COLLEGE football tutoring after super successful HS career!) in Leach system.

I'm a Leach offensive minded fan. Sorry, if you've got prob with that but that's how it is/was.

You guys are welcome to come on over to Bearstruth(247s Baylor site) to cuss/discuss the game too???

Tech, right now, to me is similar to UT in that they are underachieving due to a head coach that holds em back from getting where they should be. Just my two cents worth is all ......
