Update: Javon Bell out for season

  • It's being reported that Bell has a fracture in his foot and will miss the rest of the year. I believe this happened during Wednesday's practice.

  • The loss of Bell and Marquez in the same week really hurts. Tech has plenty of depth at WR, but those were two of our top home run threats, especially from a speed standpoint.

Yeah, definitely two guys they don't want to lose. It'll be interesting to see who steps up out of Williams, Kennard, Zouzalik, Torres, and Grant.

  • Here's Don Williams story on Bell and Marquez injuries. For those who don't know, Wreckem247.com is teamed with the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal and RedRaiders.com, so I'll link some of their content over here and some of this content over there.

  • Definitely a tough loss but if there was one position that could afford injuries it was definitely the WR spot.

  • Time for zou to step his game up and become a star now

Either that or Tyson Wiliams. Both of them have been noticeably absent this first half of the season.

Yeah I personally expected to see more of Tyson Williams this year, as much as he was being talked about as NFL-caliber.

  • Zou could be the next Wes welker but he is being over shadowed by amaro and Moore. With Marquez out this is zou's golden ticket

  • At least we are getting Derrick Edwards and Javares McRoy back this week.

I certainly hope that's true! We had such high hopes/expectations for Javares this season. Him missing has allowed Grant to make a name for himself, but it certainly can't hurt to have more speed on the field.

Maybe we are expecting too much from RSFr WRs, though. From what little time Edwards has played, he didn't look the part just yet. He just didn't look confident. With all the graduating depth in the WRs this season, I am actually excited about what is behind them, waiting for their turn. Wheeler, Davis, McRoy, Edwards, more from Grant. Maybe one of the incoming freshmen make a push, it just all looks good.

Yes, and to think Ward, Bell, Amaro, and Marquez will all be back too. And DeAndre Washington at RB. I don't see next year's team being much of a drop off, if any, from this year if they can put a solid offensive line together.

They get Porter and Bruce Jones back so I think they'll be fine at corner. Also, I think they are feeling pretty good about the JUCO guys that came in this past year, not to mention the ones coming in this year. It'll be some drop off losing Cody Davis and D.J. Johnson because they have both been there for so long but I think they'll be alright.
